Newborns are best photographed in the first 10 days of life. After that they become much more alert and not as easy to get in those cute curled up newborn poses!
Plan to allow up to 3 hours for your newborn session. I allow plenty of time for feedings, diaper changes, and just making sure you and your baby are happy and comfortable!
I will keep my house very warm, and if we are taking the pictures at your home I also recommend turning up your thermostat significantly as well. This will help keep your baby content and sleepy. I also use a space heater and a noise machine – both help immensly in keeping baby happy!
Clothing on a newborn tends to swallow them in pictures, therefore I typically do not photograph newborns in regular clothing. I like to use neutral textured wraps to swaddle the baby, knit diaper covers, and soft knit mohair cocoons. If you prefer to have clothing on your baby I recommend a simple fitted white onesie.
Since my style is clean and classic, I do not use a lot of props, however if there is something you would like included in the photos feel free to bring it along!
